Museum aan het Vrijthof
Museum aan het Vrijthof
Museum aan het Vrijthof is a young photography museum located at the heart of the city in one of the oldest buildings in Maastricht; the former retreat of Charles V. This private museum re-opened after major renovations in 2012. Museum aan het Vrijthof organizes a temporary exhibition three to four times each year. We are always looking for surprising combinations and unconventional collaborations. Thus we want to realize our ambitions and play a distinctive role in the city and in the region. In Museum aan het Vrijthof residents of and visitors to Maastricht can enjoy an hour filled with culture and photography amongst the shops, café’s and restaurants the city has to offer. The museum also has a freely accessible museum café, located at the covered courtyard.

The past years Museum aan het Vrijthof has been working on a new vision for the future of the Museum. We have now made a clear choice to continue as a Photography Museum, starting September 2019. The museum wants to present a well known name from the photography world twice a year, together with an attractive frame program. The common thread of the exhibitions is social relevance. A new and fresh museum concept, a meeting place, with more room for experimentation and new crossovers within the cultural sector. A wide audience is treated in an accessible manner to high-profile experiences and exciting cross-pollinations in an atmospheric setting, where visitors always feel welcome.
